Eco-Land Art Project
Founded by Susan Fox
Susan Fox is the Founder of the Eco-Land Art Project; a group that creates contemplative environmental art spaces that inspire mindful engagement with the land and a re-connection with nature.
Susan has been drawn to work with the earth as an artistic medium through which she brings a unique vision of recreating areas of land into sculptural forms that invite people to interact with the beauty and inspiration of the environment.
Our Mission & Inspiration
Earth Art utilizes local natural materials such as stones, birmed earth, and native plantings and sometimes reworking materials such as branches, plant life to create a “green” form of artistic expression. These projects are intended to offer meaningful connections for everyone to engage with the natural world. Eco-Land Art sites are interactive garden-like spaces that allow for social engagement merging both earth and art. They are designed to support the exploration of ones senses and encourage interactions with sculpted earth shapes, aromatic plantings and appreciation of shared habitats.
The vision for this project is to adopt underutilized spaces collaborating between nature and the arts, offering beautiful sanctuaries and synergistic experiences that inspire not only calm and centeredness but foster creative expression.
The Inspiration for this work came from a visit to The Garden Of Cosmic Speculation in Scotland. There was so much joy expressed by participants and families as they explored the spiral mountains, fractal lakes and art walkways.

From Sketch to Reality
The designs for the earth art installations are all inspired by naturally occurring patterns found in Nature. Unique plant, animal and earth formations, like the spiraling fern or meandering river are recognized by the human brain providing a familiarity that can support comfort and well being. Below you can learn more about our completed projects.
Sketch of The Spiral Labyrinth before Development
The Spiral Labyrinth
The Spiral Labyrinth is approximately a one hundred stone land art construction based on one of the 12 basic designs found in nature. Slowly walking this large stone construction planted with 85 thyme plants, allows for mindfulness experiences, re-connection to the environment and an activation of the senses.

Sketch of Story Stones
Story Stone Designs
“Story Stone” designs are a series of various small “vignette” spaces that have a geometric mandala-like circular base made of mosaic stone shapes. They are envisioned as a way to invite one to step off a trail or walkway into a dedicated place that encourages one to activate stories that unfold by being in Nature. The sites have selected plantings of trees or native bushes planted in a crescent like design on one side of the mandala, providing a container to inspire a story or poem.
Yorktown Median
The Yorktown median is designed as a habitat for birds and pollinators with a meandering path that winds down the center of the 245 foot long space. This community was built in the early 1940’s by the military. The eco-art based installation will have a series of sculptural spires designed to honor those who served their country.

Dog Park Designs
Dog park sites are designed to have both four legged companions and their owners in mind. These places are created to encourage one to explore unusual uses of environmental space, taking often under utilized or abandoned areas and transforming them into exciting places to walk with an animal or friend.
