Artist Statement
My Art is inspired by the many walks and forays into the wild – whether it is in a corner of my backyard or virgin areas where very few individuals have set foot. I often hear “look closer” as I allow the world to speak in color and energy. My work invites you to closely observe and look at the energy signature that is captured in lines and brush strokes within each drawing and painting.
All these encounters invite me to explore and give a voice to that which goes deeper than words. My love of trees is always a reoccurring theme in my paintings, and the 10,000 Heart series is where my focus has been of late, yet — when I enter the arena of playfulness the power of expression paints my experiences as if my hand is guided by the energy of the image that has caught my eye.
Sensory opportunities stimulate an embodied experience that calls me to express the layers and mystery I experience in the environment and in my life! Sometimes it is the call of a blue heron and other times it is the flattened metal car parts that I come across in the road. When looking at many of the images in my art, you see the energy I encounter as I create.
I have studied art for over fifty years inspired by many colorists, nature designers and the art of indigenous cultures who are closely connected to the earth. You could often find me in the studios and darkroom at the State University of New York, Rhode Island School of Design and hanging out around raku fires doing clay work at Rhode Island College. My work is in private collections nationally and I am presently focusing on Nature themes and my Heartseed Art Project. My heart centered process explores the more historically traditional heart shape with meditation, playful energy transfers and a bit of quantium mechanics.

The Loving Trees Series
When a bud unfolds its fragile dance in front of me, I chose a color to sing its song. A swaying branch calls forth a lively freedom, a movement that is reflected in the way my hand flows across the page holding a pastel. This artwork embodies simple nature imagery and a soul connection to the earth.
